With difference between 27.5 an 26 being a lot smaller than the stated 1.5 inch its really not an issue (26 rear with 29 front). If you're going to ride deep, soft, dry, unconsolidated snow, then 26 x 5.2" tires float and dig better than anything in 27.5". If you're riding groomed, or ice, or a mix of those two, and want to use it in non-snow months, then 27.5 x 4.5" for sure. I have one of each. I ride the 26" bike all winter and the 27.5" the rest of the year.

27.5 is actually closer to 26 than to 29. If you go by wheels, 27.5" adds like 25mm to 26", and 29" adds 38mm to 27.5", and those difference seem to translate proportionally to the tire itself. I.e. the difference between 26" and 27.5 is just not very much. Hell, you can get an inch of diameter difference just in the range one wheel size.
I just got a new bike. I tried 26, 29, and 27.5. At the end of the day the 27.5 felt best to me, and was a good neutral between a 26 and 29. Not too big or too small for me, and i ended up getting a Talon 27.5 4 and so i love the bike. To me personally the 26" felt a little too small, and i wanted a bike that would last a while.
